About Midori Evans

My photographs of Wales portray the beauty, tranquility, and spiritual connection I feel when I am traveling around Wales. Wales is my adopted home — I have been visiting Wales every year for over ten years — and I have seen practically every corner of the country. Wales has a sense of mystery and sacredness; each time I go to Wales, I find new insights into myself and feel more and more drawn to the land. One of my favorite areas to visit is around Cadair Idris, that mystical mountain which legend says will either turn you into a poet or send you stark raving mad if you spend the night on the summit.

For the past few years I have been learning Welsh. My great-grandfather's family, who were stonecutters in the 1800s, came to America from Welshpool to find work. I, in turn, travel to Wales to connect with my roots.

When photographing, I usually travel alone, seeking out sacred spaces and places of natural beauty. I grew up traveling the world with my family, living in Japan, and journeying across Asia and Europe via the Trans-Siberian Railroad. I recorded those trips with my first camera and attribute much of my vision and my wanderlust to those early travel experiences.
